Traveling Around the Sun

Essential Questions:

What wonders on Earth do we experience because of the position and size of the earth, moon, and sun?

Why do we have different seasons?

What causes night and day?

What would happen if the Sun disappeared?

Is there life in outer space?

Student Understandings:

Students will describe the effects of the positioning of the Sun, Earth, and Moon in relation to one another.

Students will explain the physical features and phases of the moon.

Students will compare and contrast the Earth and the moon.

Students will compare the size of the Earth, moon, and sun along with the distance from one another and resulting appearance.

Students will use text and diagrams to summarize important facts about the inner and outer planets.

Students will be able to describe the size and other features of the Sun. They will also give examples of how we get energy from the Sun.

Students will explain how telescopes are used to study the solar system.

Ancient Sudan

Essential Questions:

What was life like in Ancient Sudan?

How are things different now from an Ancient Society?

How did Ancient Sudanese civilizations communicate, write and eat?

What was life like for children in Ancient Sudan?

Students will learn how Ancient Sudanese used the Nile to help them survive.

Students will be able to describe how their life is similar and different from Ancient Sudanese lives.
